Designing weddings is a magical process for us, obviously. The magic magnified 1000x when I got to do it for my best friend and the love of her life. I met Alessandra 15 years ago and we instantly fell in love. We grew up together, went through some of our hardest times together and she’s become a sister to me. Joe is a model husband - loving and devoted. Needless to say, this union was an occasion I had been looking forward to for a long time!
When I first sat down with them to discuss flowers + décor, Alessandra said, “I don’t care Rik, do whatever you want.” After the initial shock of her response wore off, I felt an immense amount of gratitude for the trust and faith my friend had in me to create the wedding of her dreams.
Alessandra Joe loved greenery, so we made sure there was a lot of it. We wrapped Alessandra’s staircase at her family home with Smilax vines – the staircase where she would make her grand reveal to her immediate family. We continued with Smilax vines on their head table arch and through small accents throughout their cocktail area.
Being an April wedding, I knew I wanted to keep the colours bright and full of life – the colours of spring. Alessandra’s bouquet featured Poppies, Brown Tulips, Brown Lisianthus, Toffee Roses, Lilac, Ranunculus and Reeds. She looked like an absolute angel. We did a combination of high and low centrepieces and used blush toned candles to warm up the tablescapes.
The most special part – I got to stand next to my best friend on the biggest day of her life. It was such a significant, special day that I will always hold close to my heart.
