Classic Opulence at The Eglinton Grand

January 24, 2019

Reeshni and Akshay came to me as Wedding Planning clients for their 2-day wedding celebration. I worked closely with them to coordinate their Sangeet at Hilton Meadowvale, their wedding ceremony at Hindu Heritage Centre and their wedding reception at The Eglinton Grand in late July 2018. Shortly after meeting them, I knew they were the type of people that I’d likely befriend if we had met in a social setting. This was confirmed when I found out they are huge Friends fans. All of our interactions were lighthearted, yet concise and effective. It was a pleasure working with them through and through.

Looking back at the day 6 months later, there are particular highlights that still stand out in my mind. As guests arrived for the reception at The Eglinton Grand, they were ushered up to the mezzanine level for cocktail hour. 60 minutes later, the grandiose curtain opened to reveal Reeshni & Akshay in the old theatre space dancing their first dance to At Last by Etta James. To make things even sweeter, Shashi and Anil (Askhay’s parents) were celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary on that same day. After Reeshni & Akshay finished cutting their cake (to I’ll Be There For You by The Rembrandts, obviously) we rolled out a surprise wedding cake by Just Temptations for Shashi and Anil to cut featuring a vintage photograph of the pair in their younger years. There was so much love in the room.

Reeshni & Akshay’s reception was filled with heartfelt speeches, personal performances by relatives and a ton of laughter thanks to the MCs Rakesh and Mark (friend’s of Reeshni & Akshay). The dance floor remained packed all evening confirming that these two really know how to throw a party. By the end, I felt like part of the family. I will forever cherish the memory of being dragged onto the dance floor, with the crowd chanting my name to be part of the Kalire smash. Even typing this out, I have a huge smile on my face in gratitude for having been a part of this amazing day.

The true honour for me was when Reeshni asked me to make her bridal bouquet. She gave me her full trust and allowed me to run with the vision I had in my mind. Bridal bouquets are so personal and I was honoured to create this wedding detail for the sweetest bride. Below you can see Reeshni and Akshay beautifully photographed by Luminous Weddings at their ceremony and in the financial district of downtown Toronto.
